NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Louisiana State University dental school in New Orleans is adding evening and Saturday hours to its pediatric clinic .

LSU Health New Orleans says in a news release that it’s adding two evenings and one Saturday per month.

Dean Henry Gremillion (GREM-ee-anh) says that will help children whose parents cannot get off work to take them to the dentist.

Officials say that last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranked Louisiana second in the nation for the number of third-graders with untreated tooth decay.

LSU says the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s foundation - Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children - provided $37,000 for the after-hours clinic.

Appointments are required.

The clinic will accept Medicaid and LaCHIP, and others can get discounts under the school’s student fee plan.
