ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York program is providing $254,000 in matching grants to 22 communities and organizations for trail development projects.

The money from the Greenway Conservancy Trail Grant Program is going to projects in the mid-Hudson Valley and Capital Region. The grant program is funded by the state’s Environmental Protection Fund.

Some of the projects receiving grants this year include the Canalway Trail in Whitehall, the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail in the village of Nassau, the village connector trail in the town of Red Hook, and the Wallkill Valley Rail-Trail.

The Hudson River Valley Greenway program is designed to encourage natural and cultural resource protection, regional planning, economic development, public access, and education.
