GULF SHORE, Ala. (AP) - Baldwin County voters will have an opportunity to make golf carts legal on public roads. A Baldwin-only amendment to the Alabama Constitution on next Tuesday’s ballot would allow municipal governments in the county to limited operation of golf carts on designated streets or thoroughfares.

The Press-Register reports (https://bit.ly/2f8ULdl) Barbara Garland’s home in Gulf Shores is next door to an adjoining golf course, so she and her husband don’t have far to travel in their golf cart.

But there have been times when Garland has taken the cart out on the nearby public streets to travel to the clubhouse. She’s been pulled over twice by police.

Rep. Steve McMillan believes that if Baldwin County voters endorse the amendment, it could lead to more counties in the state pushing for their legalization on public roads.
