BUFORD, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a tractor trailer carrying eight cars caught fire in northern Gwinnett County and spawned several brush fires across about 110 acres.

News outlets report the car carrier became engulfed in flames while on Interstate 85 on Saturday afternoon in Buford. It sparked several woods and grass fires in the median and the wooded area of the interstate, causing what the Georgia Department of Transportation described as “miles of congestion.”

Gwinnett Deputy Fire Chief Charles Wells says the truck driver didn’t realize his vehicle was on fire and spreading the flames as he drove down the interstate. Officials did not immediately release details of what caused the tractor-trailer to catch fire.

No injuries or damage to homes was reported.
