CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) - The Latest on the investigation into suspicious chemicals found inside a suburban Denver home (all times local):

8:35 p.m.

Authorities have detonated two explosive devices found inside a suburban Denver home.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Capt. Darren Weekly says the items were dangerous but required additional manipulation to become bombs. Authorities discovered them Monday while investigating suspicious chemicals found inside of a home. They planned to remain at the scene into the night to determine whether there was any further danger.

An officer discovered the box of chemicals Monday morning at the home of one of two teenagers who had been arrested for an unrelated reason the night before. The officer was notifying the youth’s parents of the arrest when he spotted the items and requested a hazardous materials team. Federal authorities also joined in the investigation.

The teens are high school aged. Authorities say one had an extensive knowledge of chemicals.

Authorities say a bomb squad will detonate two devices found in a suburban Denver house that prompted the evacuation of more than 30 nearby homes.

Officials said Monday they found the devices while investigating chemicals inside a Castle Rock home. Authorities planned to detonate them as a safety precaution. Police did not elaborate on the items, but they said there was no threat to the public.

An officer discovered the box of chemicals Monday morning at the home of one of two juveniles who had been arrested for an unrelated reason the night before. The officer was notifying the youth’s parents of the arrest when he spotted the items and requested a hazardous materials team. Federal authorities also joined in the investigation.

Police say the juveniles were arrested Sunday after neighbors reported suspicious behavior. Both remain in custody.

Authorities have evacuated more than 30 homes in a suburban Denver neighborhood after police discovered chemicals inside a house.

Castle Rock spokeswoman Karen Carter said Monday the evacuations were a safety precaution while authorities await equipment that can test the chemicals. She would not say what kind of chemicals investigators believe they found.

Police say the juveniles were arrested Sunday after neighbors reported suspicious behavior. Both remain in custody. But police provided no other information about them because they are younger than 18.
