VERNAL, Utah (AP) - A Uintah County sheriff’s sergeant has been accused of sexually abusing a child at a birthday party.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2erNoha ) that Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton says the sergeant is being investigated by the Utah Attorney General’s Office in connection to the alleged incident on Aug.27.

Norton says the sergeant is accused of abusing a child while off duty at a party. The sergeant has been placed on administrative leave in light of the accusation.

Norton says a protective order has since been filed against the sergeant in connection to the incident.

The sheriff’s office will conduct its own investigation when the attorney general’s office has finished examining the case.
