SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) - A man on a scooter who was fatally shot after reportedly firing a pistol at police in northwest Arkansas during a traffic stop has been identified as a 26-year-old from Springdale.

Police said in a news release Wednesday that Zachary Sutton died after being shot when Sgt. Josh Kirmer and Officer Roger Eubanks returned gunfire Tuesday night. Police say Sutton was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The news release said video from the officers’ vehicle shows Sutton aiming and firing a handgun at Eubanks and Kirmer before they returned fire, but said the video will not yet be released.

Capt. Ron Hritz said no other information is available.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. The officers are on administrative leave.
