ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A Glenwood Springs man has pleaded guilty to vehicular assault after an Aspen police detective overheard the man laughing about the legal proceedings in a local marijuana dispensary.

The Aspen Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2dv9bG1 ) that 21-year-old Colin Buchanan also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI on Tuesday.

Buchanan was charged in connection to a head-on collision near Emma, where Buchanan was one of three people hospitalized.

Buchanan’s attorneys had been working to have the legal proceedings dismissed, but on Friday a detective witnessed Buchanan laughing about the trial and the crash.

According to police documents, Buchanan told a pot-shop employee that he was drunk at the time of the crash. The detective was going to testify at trial, but Buchanan changed his plea.
