OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A recent audit shows growth in revenue and expenditures in Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s office.

The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/2cWqb51 ) reported that the routine audit by Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones showed some procedural issues within the office but no significant problems.

The audit came despite objections by Pruitt’s office, which wanted to hire an outside auditor to do the work out of concerns that Jones might have a conflict of interest. Jones had questioned the way the attorney general’s office had expanded under Pruitt.

In the end, Pruitt did not have a problem with the audit. “The state auditor’s office conducted the audit with diligence and professionalism,” he said.

The audit found the attorney general’s office didn’t have proper internal controls to make sure that revenue and inventory were accurately reported in accounting records.

Pruitt said operational issues raised in the audit have been addressed. The attorney general’s office has been taking steps that include improving procedures for handling checks that arrive in the mail, as well as improving accounting procedures for inventory.

The audit showed the agency had 2015 fiscal year expenditures of $48 million compared with 2009 fiscal year expenditures of about $28 million. The last audit of the office was conducted in 2010.

The office received a nearly $15 million general appropriation from the state in 2015, but much of the agency’s revenue came from outside that appropriation.
