LOS ANGELES (AP) - A gunman walked up to an occupied car parked in a south Los Angeles County driveway and opened fire, killing a man and wounding a woman.

The shooting occurred at midafternoon Thursday in unincorporated Westmont, which the Los Angeles Times reports has one of the highest homicide rates in the county.

The Sheriff’s Department says the gunman ran off down 109th Street and a family member drove the victims to a hospital.

The woman was wounded in the torso but there was no further information on her condition.
