ASHBURN — In the span of four days, Josh Norman and the Washington Redskins’ weekly opponent seemingly went from the Dallas Cowboys to everyone else who had an opinion about the way the team covered Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown last Monday night.
When Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was asked about Bashaud Breeland, not Norman covering Brown, he replied, ’No comment. L.O.L,’ according to the Dallas Morning News. Former New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Bart Scott called into The Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan and shredded defensive coordinator Joe Barry for his game plan.
The New York Giants even got in on it, though they’re playing the New Orleans Saints this week and don’t host the Redskins until next week.
“Especially if he calls himself — I don’t call him this, he calls himself the best corner in the league — then you have to go cover the best receivers on the other team,” Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said of Norman on Wednesday, according to ESPN. “Going in, I thought he was going to follow AB all over the place, but he didn’t. So it is what it is. He made his choice.”
Cornerback Janoris Jenkins commented on the situation, too.
“I think when you’re paying someone $70 million, there shouldn’t be no game plan,” Jenkins told reporters, according to ESPN. “The game plan should be, you’re on this guy and that’s what it is.”
Redskins wide receiver Desean Jackson was asked how he felt about Cruz’s comments, along with others criticizing the Redskins’ defensive strategy. His answer?
“I love it,” Jackson said. “Let the competition, let the people say what they want to say, get riled u[. We’re going to have to see them in two weeks, whatever Vic feels like he has to say, that’s his opinion. Still got to go on that field and play versus Josh, so whatever you say, be ready to back it up when we come play y’all. I love it. All the receivers, corners, offensive linemen, defensive linemen, it’s a competitive sport we play. If you’re going to talk about it, be ready to back it up.”
