PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) - Police say a man who died after being found in a New Jersey community pool last month had suffered a medical episode.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2cXOSi9 ) police said Wednesday 24-year-old Colin Simonelli suffered an acute cardiac episode on Aug. 20 while in Princeton’s Community Park Pool.

Police say the episode caused him to collapse into the water and drown.

Princeton officials have said Simonelli was found unresponsive that afternoon in about four feet of water. Lifeguards pulled him out and tried to perform CPR on him. Simonelli died at a hospital hours later.

Officials have said all protocols were followed correctly. Twelve lifeguards had been on duty at the time.

Police say they are ending their investigation.

The Princeton native had been a student at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
