CHICAGO (AP) - The city of Chicago will seek proposals for redeveloping a site that would have been an Olympic Village had the city’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Games been successful.
The city bought the 49-acre site in the Bronzeville neighborhood in 2009 after the closure of a hospital there. Besides the Olympics, the site had also been talked about as a possible location for the Obama presidential library, though that will be located elsewhere in Chicago.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office said Friday it will begin accepting proposals next month for a mixed-use development for commercial, institutional, residential and recreational uses.
The city says it could select a developer by spring.
