STAFFORD, Va. (AP) - Stafford authorities say a couple has been arrested after holding a man hostage and forcing him to withdraw money from an ATM and make purchases using his credit card.

The sheriff’s office says a woman told an employee at the BB&T; bank in Stafford that a man told her he was being robbed. She said she’d seen him leave the lot in a car driven by a couple and provided authorities with the license plate. The bank staff then called 911 and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address matching the car’s registration. When a man answered he told the deputies he was being held hostage by the couple inside.

Authorities say the man had been held since Sunday, and during that time he was forced to withdraw money. He also suffered lacerations and broken bones.

Police have charged 28-year-old Jamhal Blanks and 18-year-old Brianna Archie with extortion.
