VIDALIA, Miss. (AP) - A Natchez man has been arrested after Vidalia police say he scammed a Vietnam veteran out of more than $500.

News outlets report that 50-year-old Eddie W. Jones was arrested Friday on a charge of theft of assets of an aged person.

Lt. Clint Robinson says in February, Jones approached a 69-year-old Vietnam veteran about painting the victim’s home.

Robinson says after Jones completed 30 minutes of work, he told the victim that if he didn’t receive $575 he was going to lose his home. The veteran told Jones he’d give him the sum as long as he worked it off.

Authorities say they asked Jones to return the money, but after two months they issued a warrant for his arrest.

It’s not clear if Jones has an attorney.
