CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old who drowned in a suburban Buffalo hotel’s pool didn’t know how to swim.

Police in the town of Cheektowaga say officers were called to the Millennium Hotel on Walden Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unresponsive person. Upon arrival they found a teen lying by the pool. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials on Monday identified the victim as Tyler Craig. Friends say he was a junior at Buffalo’s Charter School for Applied Technologies, which is on spring break this week.

Police say Craig didn’t know how to swim. Officers say he was at the pool with friends, but two of them also didn’t know how to swim and they also nearly drowned after jumping in to help the teen.
