PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say a Waddell man is accused of felony counts of impersonating a peace officer.
They say 40-year-old David Heppler was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his home following community tips that he had acted as a sworn deputy.
Investigators reported finding a large amount of badges, police clothing, patches, guns, bullet proof vests, stun guns, scanners, handcuffs, duty belts, uniforms and other tactical items.
Detectives found that Heppler’s profile and wall pictures on his personal Facebook page were photos of MCSO patrol vehicles, SWAT vehicles and helicopters.
Sheriff’s officials say Heppler was with the MCSO posse from January 2001 until October 2002.
They say he was fired after his arrest for impersonating a public servant by posing as a reserve deputy sheriff.
