EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) - Skeletal remains believed to be human have been found in eastern Oklahoma.

Eufaula Police Chief Don Murray told reporters that a mushroom hunter found what appears to be a human bone in a wooded area north of Eufaula.

Murray said officers investigating the report Sunday afternoon found additional remains and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Murray said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the state medical examiner’s office were called for assistance.

He said it is not known how long the remains had been in the area or whether the remains are male or female.
