MAGNOLIA, Del. (AP) - A Magnolia woman has been charged with vehicular assault after a 2-year-old boy was struck by a car.

Delaware State Police said in a statement Wednesday that 30-year-old Kenyanna Suarez was speeding through a Magnolia neighborhood and talking on her cellphone when her truck hit the boy Tuesday afternoon. The child was hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigators say witnesses reported that Suarez was driving at a high rate of speed when she entered the neighborhood and was talking on her cellphone at a time when children are dropped off by school buses and parents stand outside awaiting their arrival.

Suarez is charged with vehicular assault, unreasonable speed, driving while using an electronic device and driving while her license was suspended or revoked.

She was released on $2,150 unsecured bond.
