GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A former employee of the Garfield County Clerk’s Office has pleaded guilty to embezzling $18,000 while she worked at the office from 2011 to 2015.

The Post Independent reports (https://bit.ly/2oKInZ4) Alicia Macias pleaded guilty to felony embezzlement Thursday. Another count of felony theft was dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Under the agreement, the prosecution is recommending Macias get probation instead of jail and that she pay back the money she stole.

Macias is the third county clerk’s office employee to plead guilty to theft in recent years.

In 2014, Robin McMillan pleaded guilty to theft after being accused of stealing more than $440,000 from the clerk’s office. Two years earlier, Brenda Caywood admitted to stealing nearly $16,000 from the office.
