MONTEREY, La. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve arrested a Ferriday man after they say he made unwanted sexual advances to a 16-year-old girl and later called her racial slurs.
News outlets report 18-year-old John Austin Evans was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery and simple battery of a 16-year-old girl. They were in route to a party in Monterey.
Concordia Parish Sherriff’s Officer investigator Sgt. Lee Ford says Evans made unwanted sexual advances to the girl in the back seat of a truck with multiple people Sunday. During the struggle, Evans bit her lip, chocked and slapped her.
Ford says Evans later accused a black man of raping a white girl, which reportedly caused a mob to attack the man.
It’s unclear if Evans has an attorney.
