SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A southwestern Missouri man is facing a more severe murder charge in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
The Springfield News-Leader (https://sgfnow.co/2pdPBWn ) reports that a Greene County judge on Tuesday approved the request by prosecutors to charge 39-year-old Shawn Turner with first-degree murder. Turner had been charged with second-degree murder.
Prosecutors say they made the decision based on their belief they can prove the killing was premeditated.
Turner allegedly told police he repeatedly shot 31-year-old Kristi Spurlock in their Springfield home in January during an argument over money. He then allegedly shot himself in the head but survived.
Turner is jailed on $750,000 bond.
He’s also charged with armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.
