BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a woman who they say was fatally stabbed by her son during an attack that left her husband seriously injured.

Somerset County prosecutors say 61-year-old Helen Litwornia was killed in Monday’s attack at the family’s home in Bridgewater. They say she died from sharp force trauma to the neck and her death was ruled a homicide.

Her 61-year-old husband, Stephen, suffered severe stab wounds and lacerations. He’s hospitalized in critical condition.

The couple’s 27-year-old son, Michael, is charged with murder and aggravated assault. Authorities say he barricaded himself inside the home after the attack but was captured after a SWAT team stormed the residence.

It wasn’t known Wednesday if Michael Litwornia has retained an attorney.
