SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - One of two men accused of killing a couple in southeast Georgia couple has been sentenced to life in prison.

Media outlets report Chatham County Superior Court Judge sentenced 27-year-old Michael Donnta Jones to two consecutive life prison terms without the possibility of parole on Friday.

On April 25, a jury found jones guilty on malice murder counts in the killings of 27-year-old Forrest Ison and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Alice Stevens. The couple were shot Nov. 3, 2013 by two men in the carport of their home in Thunderbolt, about 5 miles southeast of Savannah.

Jones’ co-defendant, Nathaniel Wilkins, goes to trial later this year.

Wilkins worked at the restaurant where Ison was executive chef. Assistant District Attorney Jerry Rothschild says the slayings were in retaliation for Wilkins being fired.
