MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - School leaders in Manchester have approved a contentious redistricting plan.
WMUR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2pEQeZa ) that the redistricting plan was passed by Manchester’s Board of School Committee late Wednesday. Officials say they are addressing overcrowding within schools.
Beech Street Elementary is the only school within the district that will feed into two separate middle schools.
Some parents argue that the move will separate children from their friends and that the plan singles out Beech Street.
Supporters of the redistricting plan say it allows students to interact with others.
Superintendent Dr. Bolgen Vargas acknowledges that the plan isn’t perfect but says it’s the best solution available.
Redistricting, which takes effect next school year, is part of a three-part project. A study has also been scheduled to aid in improvements.
