NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island state representative is being sued by his mother over control of an iconic beachfront restaurant.

WPRI-TV (https://bit.ly/2o91wEQ ) reports the civil case over Ballard’s on Block Island pits Republican state Rep. Blake Filippi and one brother against the other brother and their mother.

Ballard’s has been in the Filippi family since the 1950’s. Control over the business and the $5.3 million property is in a trust between Marion Filippi and her sons.

Court documents show Marion Filippi and her son Stephen claim the other two brothers tried to reduce their mother’s powers outlined in the trust. Blake Filippi and his brother Paul are countersuing on several claims including deceit, defamation and breach of contract.

Neither party commented on the lawsuit. The next hearing is scheduled for next week.
