TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Two former officials at a southwest Arkansas hospital have been sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay a total of $6 million for failing to pay federal payroll taxes.
Online court records show 68-year-old James Cheek of Waleska, Georgia, was sentenced Friday and 69-year-old Herschel Breig Sr. of Nixa, Missouri, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Cheek was CEO of Hope Medical Park Hospital in Hope and Breig was a senior vice president when prosecutors say they failed to pay approximately $6 million in payroll taxes for nine of 13 quarterly periods from January 2009 through April 2012.
Both pleaded guilty in a plea agreement in which prosecutors dropped other similar charges against them and recommended each be sentenced to three years in prison.
