CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - A Wilmington man has been charged in connection with a series of Claymont-area burglaries.

Authorities say 30-year-old Jeffrey P. Chiffens is suspected of five April burglaries and faces several charges.

New Castle County Police say officers arrested Chiffens after a Claymont BP gas station was broken-into Tuesday night. Delaware State Police say officers responded to the gas station after a witness reported a man breaking a window of the business and leaving shortly after carrying merchandise.

Police say they later received a call reporting a suspicious person in a nearby neighborhood. Officers arrived and had Chiffens in custody after a brief struggle. He was later identified as the man suspected of burglarizing the gas station.

Charges Chiffens faces include third-degree burglary and it’s unclear if he has an attorney.
