FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A man’s trial in 2015 shootings that left one Northern Arizona University student dead and three others wounded is drawing to a close.
Closing arguments in the trial of 20-year-old Steven Jones of Glendale on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault are planned Tuesday in Coconino County Superior Court in Flagstaff.
Jones testified Thursday and Friday, saying he fired in self-defense after being punched in the face by intoxicated people near the university’s Flagstaff campus.
Jones testified he got his gun from his car and remembered firing shots in the air but didn’t mean to hurt anyone.
Two friends of Jones testified as prosecution witnesses, saying they felt more in fear of him than the students who were shot. Colin Brough was the student killed.
Testimony began April 5.
