SEVEN SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) - A member of a club’s security personnel team has died after being assaulted by two men in Seven Springs.
News outlets report that 32-year-old Jerry Wayne Anthony Chandler and 27-year-old Dustin Steve Kirk have each been charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Michael Ray Brinkley.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says in a release that sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Maynard’s Night Club around 11 p.m. Security personnel had removed five men from the club for starting a fight. Three cooperated, but Chandler and Kirk resisted and took Brinkley to the ground and assaulted him before fleeing. Brinkley was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m.
The suspects were arrested after being identified by witnesses and are being held in the Wayne County Detention Center without bail. It’s unclear if they have lawyers.
