HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - A Hampton teen has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Newport News man.
News outlets report a 17 year-old boy was arrested Thursday and charged with multiple offenses including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and murder in the death of 27-year-old Travis Wardrick. Wardrick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hampton Police spokesman Sgt. Matt Bond says police received a complaint of shots fired. While en route, officers were told someone was shot. Bond says when officers and medics arrived, they found a man outside suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Authorities say the teen and the man knew each other and were involved in an altercation before the man was shot.
It’s unclear if the teenager has an attorney.
