LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The mother of a Central High School special needs student has filed a lawsuit against Jefferson County Public Schools, saying an instructional assistant molested her son.

News outlets report that the lawsuit alleges John Streicher touched the student’s genitals in a sexual manner while assisting him in the bathroom in August 2016.

The student is a 21-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome, autism and mental retardation. The lawsuit says another student witnessed the incident and reported it to a teacher at the school.

The lawsuit filed by attorney Brandon Lawrence names Streicher, the Jefferson County Board of Education, Superintendent Donna Hargens and Central High Principal Raymond Green as defendants, saying the administration was negligent. It requests a trial by jury and damages over $5,000.

The school board declined to comment and Streicher couldn’t be reached.
