CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years on a third-degree murder conviction in the death of her stepson almost three years ago.

The (Chambersburg) Public Opinion (https://bit.ly/2osUFpS ) reports that 32-year-old Michele Hunter was sentenced Monday in Franklin County Court in the June 2014 death of 4-year-old Billy Travis.

Prosecutors allege that she threw the boy to the ground in 2011, and she and the boy’s father didn’t seek help for 36 hours. He spent three years in a vegetative state before dying.

Hunter was earlier sentenced to 9 to 20 years on endangerment and other charges. She said Monday that while she believes her actions didn’t cause the fatal injury, “I did not do all I could have done. I should have done better.”
