CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - A 19-year-old has been charged with attempted murder for attacking a man in South Carolina after borrowing his cellphone.

The Greenville News reports (https://grnol.co/2oq9Tw3 ) that Clemson Police Chief Jimmy Dixon says in a statement that Rocco Michael Recchia of Greenville approached a 67-year-old man who was standing in his yard Saturday morning. The resident, who hasn’t been identified, allowed Recchia to use his cellphone to make a call. Recchia then struck the resident in the head several times and choked him. No motive is clear.

The victim is in stable condition after being taken to the hospital. Recchia is being held without bail at the Pickens County Detention Center. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
