INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis man whose 3-month-old daughter disappeared nearly two years ago has been convicted of neglect but acquitted of murder.

A jury returned its verdicts Wednesday evening in the trial of Jeffrey Fairbanks.

Janna Rivera disappeared on May 29, 2015 and was presumed dead after search of at least three counties over several weeks found no trace of the girl. She has never been found.

An affidavit says Fairbanks first told investigators he could not remember anything about the day his daughter disappeared but later told them he would lead them to the body and took them to an apartment complex dumpster, but the dumpster was empty.

Fairbanks faces a possible sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison. His attorney says he plans to appeal.
