COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A University of South Carolina student is suing the owner of a bar he says needlessly assaulted him during a fight over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Daniel Wells faces a criminal assault charge. But senior engineering student Ryan Chisolm’s civil lawsuit filed Wednesday seeks monetary damages for the injuries he suffered last month, including a broken jaw, nose and teeth.
Chisolm says he was drinking at Carolina Pour House last month when he was pushed out during a fight. Chisolm says Wells put him in a chokehold, rendered him unconscious and threw his body to the ground.
An attorney listed as representing Chisolm on the criminal charge didn’t immediately return an email request for comment on the civil suit.
