OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Northern California police say they have arrested one of the dozens of teens who robbed and beat transit train passengers in an attack they say was orchestrated.

The Bay Area Regional Transit agency announced the arrest Friday. Officials said the suspect is a minor and they declined to release a name.

Police say 40 to 60 teens jumped the fare gate at the Coliseum Station Saturday night and swarmed through at least two train cars, grabbing bags and phones and then fleeing before police arrived.

BART’s acting police chief, Jeffrey Jennings, told the agency’s board Thursday that crime on the trains rose 22 percent the first three months of 2017 compared to same period last year.

BART said it has identified other suspects in the attack and expects more arrests.
