LAKE WORTH, Fla. (AP) - Officials say police found and confiscated an unloaded gun in a student’s backpack at a South Florida high school.

The Palm Beach Post (https://goo.gl/Y4rMZe) reports that the gun was found Thursday morning at Lake Worth High School.

Principal Elvis Epps said in a message to parents that the gun was discovered during a search for tobacco products. Police took the female student off campus. Epps says discipline will proceed as outlined in the student code of conduct.

It wasn’t clear if the girl would face criminal charges.
