LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Jurors in central Florida have unanimously recommended death for a man convicted of killing two people.

The Ledger (https://goo.gl/QShbI5 ) reports that the Polk County jury announced its recommendation Friday for Benjamin Davis Smiley Jr. A judge will make the final decision. Smiley had been convicted last fall of first-degree murder for killing 58-year-old Clifford Drake during a 2013 home invasion in Lakeland.

Smiley was convicted of another murder in 2015. Prosecutors say he killed 46-year-old Carmen Riley less than a month before killing Drake. The sentencing for that case is still pending, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Smiley’s lawyers presented testimony that he was treated for two brain aneurysms within five months of Drake’s murder, and the damage from those aneurysms altered his personality.
