METHUEN, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts State Police trooper has been taken to the hospital after his cruiser was struck by a man suspected of driving drunk.

A department spokesman say the trooper was working a road construction detail on Interstate 495 in Methuen (mih-THOO’-uhn) when he was struck at about 8 p.m. Thursday.

He was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen for treatment of minor injuries. His name was not made public.

The driver of the SUV that struck the cruiser was identified as 59-year-old Joseph Doiron of North Andover.

He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and charged with fourth offense drunken driving, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and other charges. He will be arraigned at a future date.
