APEX, N.C. (AP) - Police officers in North Carolina are looking into the latest of three incidents in which they say members of a high school cross country team have been struck by BB pellets.

Apex police told local media outlets that Friday’s incident is related to incidents which occurred on April 4 and April 26. In each instance, members of the Apex High School cross country team were injured by an unknown projectile while they were running. Police think the runners were hit by BB pellets.

Witnesses have reported seeing the occupants of a vehicle point something from the vehicle and hearing a series of “pops” in rapid succession.

Lisa Luten, spokeswoman for Wake County Public Schools, said three male runners have been injured, although police have only provided information about two students.
