HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A New Haven man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in a scheme to distribute oxycodone obtained through fraudulent prescriptions.
The U.S. attorney’s office says 37-year-old Julian Cintron was sentenced Monday in Hartford.
The Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating a drug trafficking organization in 2012 suspected of manufacturing fraudulent prescriptions and distributing oxycodone in the New Haven area.
Prosecutors say the organization stole the personal identifying information of more than 50 medical professionals and obtained more than 80,000 oxycodone pills between February 2013 and September 2015.
Eleven people were charged.
Prosecutors say Cintron recruited and transported people to fill fraudulent prescriptions. Prescriptions were filled throughout Connecticut.
Cintron pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone.
