EDWARDS, Miss. (AP) - A man is in critical condition after being shot during an event at the American Legion Lodge in Edwards.

Maj. Pete Luke of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department tells local media that authorities received a call reporting the shooting just after 2 a.m. Sunday. He says someone shot 28-year-old Meredith Burns, of Utica, several times in the parking lot of the American Legion Lodge.

Burns was taken to a Vicksburg hospital where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Luke says 19-year-old Jaylein Marques Wallace has been named as a suspect in the shooting. It’s unclear if Wallace has an attorney.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
