ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) - A 12-year-old girl has died in an apparent drowning in western Minnesota.

Douglas County sheriff’s authorities say they got a phone call about 5:30 p.m. Friday about a girl in the water channel between Cowdrey and Darling lakes.

A search began immediately in the water and on shore. The girl was found in about 3 feet of water that evening and died, despite life-saving efforts.



The victim is identified as JaLysa Anne Cook of Alexandria.

KFGO-AM reports her body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The investigation continues.
