ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - The head of the hospital that serves northeastern Vermont is stepping down and plans are underway to find his replacement.

The Caledonian Record (https://bit.ly/2ppsdT2 ) reports Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital CEO Paul Bengtson told the hospital trustees Wednesday of his plans to leave sometime next year.

Hospital Trustee Steve Nichols says Bengtson’s impending retirement is sure to have implications for the hospital, the region and for health care in Vermont.

Nichols says the search committee of trustees, managers, medical staff and community members has one goal: to make sure that the person that succeeds Bengtson has the same commitment to the health of the community he has.

Bengston has been at the hospital since 1986.
