BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Birmingham Police Department has announced a new anti-crime initiative that authorities say will target crime saturated areas.
News outlets report that Birmingham police announced in a press conference Monday a new crime fighting initiative called Operation Eagle.
Officials say the program will allow police to improve prevent crime, increase police visibility and partner with residents of various communities to improve quality of life.
Police Chief A.C. Roper says for the next 30 days the operation will track crime trends and use an all hands on deck approach to conduct law enforcement surges in impacted communities.
Authorities say Operation Eagle could allow for 50 to 100 additional officers on the street during any shift.
