BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for a gang-related killing.
The Ledger (https://goo.gl/GriRnP ) reports that 23-year-old Sidney Lee Mells was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He had previously been charged with first-degree murder and faced a life sentence.
Authorities say 33-year-old Jamal Fleming was pumping gas at a Lakeland station in January 2014 when he was shot in the head. Detectives say Mells shot Fleming while trying to kill a rival gang member who had been riding in the same car as Fleming.
