VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A Virginia Beach mother who was reported missing after she took her two children to a so-called ecovillage community has been charged with arson.

Virginia Beach Fire Department spokesman Art Kohn tells local media that 30-year-old Monica Lamping was arrested Monday.

Lamping’s home went up in flames in the early morning hours of Jan. 22. The fire destroyed the home and killed a dog and cat.

Lamping, her 7-year-old son and her infant daughter weren’t home. Her Jeep couldn’t be found.

Lamping’s family reported her missing when they were unable to find her or reach her on her cellphone.

She and the children were found four days later in an “off-the-grid” ecovillage community about 40 miles southeast of Asheville, North Carolina.

It’s unclear if Lamping has an attorney.
