SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say a Springfield man apparently died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Dane County medical examiner’s office identifies the victim as 62-year-old James Prem.

Dane County sheriff’s deputies were called about 9:30 p.m. Monday on a report of an unconscious man who was not breathing.

Authorities say Prem had been using a small engine power washer and a heater in an enclosed area with no ventilation. He was found indoors, near a piece of gas-powered maintenance equipment, and despite life-saving efforts was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday. Additional testing is underway, but a final ruling probably won’t be available for three to four months.
