BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Bakersfield police have shot and killed a robbery suspect during a chase.

Kern County coroner’s officials say 47-year-old Rogelio Landa of Buttonwillow died at the scene Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred after police investigating robberies of a grocery and a recycling center tried to stop a Jeep Cherokee with three people inside.

A short chase ended with the Jeep hitting a tree in southeast Bakersfield.

Police say Landa, who was the driver, and a passenger ran off.

A police officer shot Landa. The two passengers, a man and a woman, were arrested.

Police say a gun was found in the Jeep.
